2016 marks a very exciting year for the USC LSA Competitions portfolio. Last year we ran two extremely successful competitions in Client Interviewing and Mooting; both received excellent feedback regarding performance and participation from competitors. The final USC LSA’s inaugural Client Interviewing Competition was held at Maurice Blackburn’s Brisbane office, which was judged by two of their Principal Solicitors. The 2015 Mooting Tournament was conducted wholly in the Moot Court at USC. In this competition we were fortunate enough to have experienced practitioners and a District Court Judge adjudicate the final.

This year, Negotiation will be introduced in semester one as our third competition, with Client Interviewing and Mooting to be held in second semester. On top of facilitating three competitions, we will also be commencing a ‘Moot Club’ in semester 1. Moot Club is designed to educate and train new mooters in the art of verbal and written advocacy. Furthermore, for our more ‘seasoned’ competitors, coaching will become available for those who aim to represent the USC LSA in an inter-varsity moot.

Finally, Leigh and I will be working continuously throughout the year to find new ways to make LSA Competitions more challenging and exciting than ever. There is so much to get involved in, and a law degree is over before you know it. So, don’t wait around or put things off until next year… Just jump right in and just have a go!

Looking forward to 2016!
