Looking for work experience? Get credit towards your degree for it too!

Law 311 - Law Professional Practice is unlike any other subject.  There's no lectures, tutorials or exams.  Instead you learn by doing real work for real clients of the Suncoast Community Legal Service (SCLS).  No prior work experience is required; you just need to have completed 8 law courses.

One day a week you work at the SCLS under the close supervision and support of Kirsty Mackie or David Wise who are USC law lecturers and qualified practitioners.  They provide a low-pressure, friendly environment to learn the practical legal skills and provide real legal assistance to disadvantaged people in the community.  All assessment is ungraded Pass/Fail and is completed in class time.

The subject counts as work experience for your resume, and gives you a recognised edge in applications for for clerkships and jobs.  It also qualifies you for future work experience opportunities with the SCLS.

Please email Kirsty (kmackie@usc.edu.au) or David (dwise@usc.edu.au) if you have any queries or would like to visit them at the SCLS to see first hand what LAW311 involves.
