About Event
We are holding our annual careers night where you can come hear from a range of professionals who would love to answer your questions and provide information on what pathways are available after completing their Bachelor of Laws degree. Listen to two panels of speakers from private practice and alternative practice!
This is a free event open to all high school and uni students, parents/guardians and the general community with food provided.
The night will run from 6pm - 8pm and will be located at the UniSC Sippy Downs Campus, Lecture Theatre 7, C Block.

Panel 1: Private Practice
Trent has a keen interest in Elder Law, Estates Law and Commercial Law. He is a sessional lecturer at UniSC teaching the Elder and Succession Law elective. Trent is also the former President, Vice President and Secretary of the Sunshine Coast Law Association, a current judiciary member for Sunshine Coast Gympie Rugby League and a member of the University of the Sunshine Coast External Advisory Board.

Rose has 9 years of experience working within the criminal justice system in Queensland after obtaining her Bachelor of Laws at the University of Southern Queensland. Rose works as a criminal defence lawyer with expertise as a prosecutor and with Queensland parole applications. She has appeared in all jurisdictions in Queensland as both a prosecutor and solicitor advocate in trials, summary hearings, committals, sentences, appeals and various applications.

Emily studied journalism and worked as a newspaper journalist for three years before commencing a Bachelor of Laws as a mature-aged student at QUT. She undertook work experience and was offered a permanent role at Brandon and Gullo Lawyers . Emily was admitted as a solicitor and later became an Associate (her current role). She has practiced in both commercial and personal injury law. Emily now works exclusively in personal injury with an interest in workers’ compensation.

Emily contributes to Grindal Legal’s Planning and Estate Administration, Property and Banking and Finance Practices. She enjoys interacting with clients and peers, working in partnership with them to find the best outcome.

Panel Two: Alternative practice
John is a barrister, nationally-accredited mediator and arbitrator with wide experience in all forms of litigation and alternative dispute resolution. He has significant experience in running trials and mediating in succession, insurance, commercial, family, negligence, farming and defamation disputes. John is also the President of the Sunshine Coast Bar Association Inc.

Georgia is a UniSC alumni, having completed her Bachelor of Laws (Honours Class I) and Bachelor of Criminology and Justice with commendation for academic excellence. She has experience working at the Sunshine Coast Barristers Chambers assisting counsel across a variety of practice areas, In 2024, Georgia was appointed as an Associate to a Judge of the District Court of Queensland, and will hopefully be admitted as a legal practitioner by the Supreme Court of Queensland later this year.

Teddy has been a registered pharmacist since 1987. He now serves as an examiner for the Pharmacy Board of Australia. Teddy holds a Bachelor of Laws, is admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland as a lawyer and has been awarded a PhD in law. He combines his passion for pharmacy with his legal acumen by using the interface between health, pharmacy and law as a basis for legal research and publishing in health and law journals in Australia and internationally. Teddy also teaches at UniSC.

Swain provides a range of direct and support services on legal, compliance, risk management, policy and governance matters that may affect UniSC. He is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the work undertaken by the University’s panel firms and maintaining a professional development program for UniSC staff focused on legal issues. Swain studied a dual degree in Law and Commerce at the University of Queensland.

Maclane studied a dual degree in Law and Accounting, and subsequently completed postgraduate studies to be admitted as a professional in both fields. A career spanning law firms, government, and corporate sectors followed, including working as an auditor. Maclane now works as a Financial Accountant at Youi Insurance, focusing on employee share options to align executive interests with those of shareholders.
